* Insomnia

When your child is frquently awake at night or is very tired during the day, he may not be sleeping well. Try to get the child accustomed to regular bedtime and always check in whether they are properly sleeping. Check your child's diet for anything that may be keeping them from sleeping, like soda, or extra unhealthy food.

* Nightmares

Nightmares usually affect children and reduce in frequency as they grow older. If they wake up agitated and in fear, be understanding and try to explain the situation as calmly as you can. Also see if there are any stressful conditions in your child's lifestyle as these are what normally would cause nightmares to occur.

* Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS)

RLS refers to the uncomfortable feeling in the legs, usually caused by improper bedtime routines, that cause an overwhelming urge to move and twitch.

* Sleeptalking

Not really a problem so no cause for concern. Kids will normally outgrow this as they age. If there is something troubling you about your kids' sleep talking (like if there's heavy breathing involved,) consult your physician as this may be indicative of a different condition.

* Sleepwalking

As many as 40% of children experience sleepwalking. It usually involves small motor actions with a relationship to stressful things they may have done during the day. They usually occur in kids between the ages of 3 and 7 but may continue well into adolescence.

* Night terrors

While many mistake them for nightmares, night terrors are different in that they occur in the deep stages of sleep, not in REM sleep like nightmares.

* Snoring

Snoring can happen in children when there is any form of blockage in the airway. This creates a noise due to the vibration of the back of the throat.

* Sleep apnea

Similar to snoring but, additionally, child will have difficulty breathing. Medical attention is advised immediately.
