Interpret Your Life Like You Interpret a Dream

AAAAAH!One of my favorite Huna Trainer podcasts is about interpreting events in your life like you are interpreting a dream. Look for synchronicities, connections, hidden meanings. While they may not be 100% accurate, they are a great tool for bringing you more awareness about your life and a great way to develop an appreciation for the events around you.

I had a girlfriend before who believed in synchronicities. And while I didn’t believe at the time, finding the hidden meanings that things meant for our relationship was a great way to spend time and bond. We would stay up all night looking at the synchronicities of how we almost met in college but didn’t because we probably wouldn’t like each other, how things happen when we are apart that surprisingly get us to the exact same places, or how we ended up together after some weird events. Regardless of whether they were freak coincidences or events that truly happened especially for us, it didn’t matter. It created a connection between us that brought us even closer and gave our relationship more joy.

I personally believe that synchronicities are real. And the more I believe them, the more I see them. Most of the time, I think I overdo it, although it doesn’t really matter. It’s exciting and fun.

During the last two weeks, I received the exact same rewards catalog from my credit card company in the exact same package three times. A couple of my co-workers who use the same company were wondering how come their catalog has not come yet, while I’ve received several of the same.

I generally don’t read rewards catalog until I intend to get something, so the first two, I just threw away. However, when I got the third one, I thought, “There must be a meaning here somewhere….”

So I opened it up, pulled out the mini-booklet and a promotional flyer leapt right in my face. It was a company promotion where you will win a million bucks if the last six digits of your credit card number match the six digit approval code of any of your purchases for the year.

I thought, “This might be it!!!!” When work closed, I ran eagerly home and pulled out my folder of all my credit card receipts for the year. I sifted through pant pockets and old notebooks to see if there were any extra receipts. I looked at emails of my online purchases to see if there were approval codes in them. I went through each one by one. And found no match. I sat on my bed disappointed though entertained by what just happened.

After sleeping on it, I realized I used the credit card a lot this year, more than any other year since I’ve had it. And I haven’t been consciously taking care of my finances lately. I think that’s what it meant, just a little reminder that I really appreciate.

  1. How To Make Your Head Explode In Both Complexity and Rigor - Quickie Sheets - November 22nd, 2006 at 3:51 am

[…] The image of head explosions pretty much stuck with me - even dreaming about it at times - and I remember it everytime I get into long, winding self-analysis.  Anytime I find myself acting out theoretical events, I imagine a head explosion as a metaphor for an unnecessary excursion into events that can, may, and could happen but no one really knows.
